A local Family who lost a wife and mother in the devastating Earthquake in Haiti are honored in a very special way.
On the January 12th, 2010, the earthquake killed thousands of people in Haiti and destroyed thousands of homes. Families with their children had to sleep outside on the ground, Indeed they had to find shelter, even if it was just under a blanket.
One such family was The Bonheurs, a family of ten. Their homes was completely destroyed and they had no idea what there were going to do or who would help them. Even to this date, no humanitarian organization has even visited the area of Cap Rouge where hundreds are homeless.
However, as The Arms of Jesus Children¹s Mission responded to the needs of the people of Haiti, a house building program was begun, this as people donated to our relief and development work. (The Mission builds and donates over 60 homes each year in Guatemala)
Mrs. Marie-Ange Desamour, a member of Dr. Martin¹s Church in Pickering, and a faithful supporter of AOJ, lost her life in the earthquake, this whilst visiting family in Port-Au-Prince. Her fellow workers at Canada Post, gave a memorial gift, to be used in her memory. As a result, the Bonheur family received, on Easter Sunday, a brand new home. The home was dedicated in Marie¹s memory, and presented to the family. This as tears of appreciation fell and prayers of thanksgiving to God were offered.
Another ten homes are under construction, and as long as funds are available, more homes will be build and given to needy families in Cap Rouge Haiti.
Dr. Sam Martin,
AOJ President.
