Haiti Update

USA TODAY: 2nd December 2010 HEADLINE : USA Today examines Why Aid For Haiti Goes unspent

Dr. Sam Martin | Thu 2nd Dec 2010
"Ten months after the magnitude-7 earthquake that killed 230,000 people and destroyed at least 60% of Haiti's capital city, Port-au-Prince, some relief agencies have not spent the bulk of the donations they raised after the disaster. The report mentioned three major agencies in the US have spent between 33% and 50% of funds raised!"

As many both in Haiti, and in Canada ask “ where has the money gone?” The Arms of Jesus Children’s Mission, feels it is important for it’s donors to know that it has spent at this time 86% of funds received since the Earthquake, to meet the needs of the people who lost everything as a result of the Earthquake in January 2010. This does not include the funds used in the construction of Permanent Homes for families. To date 32 homes have been built and given to families who lost their homes as a result of the earthquake, and another 18 are to be constructed in the days ahead. This over and above our on going ‘Earthquake recovery ministries’ which include, spiritual, medical, educational and social outreaches ( provision of water/food/clothing etc) to needy families) The House construction program also provides employment for a number of Haitian men and a highlight was the presentation of finished homes on ‘Christmas Day and New years Day.’ We thank God for His continued provision and we seek to be good stewards of that provision.
