Abdi who is 8 years old lives with her single mother Mary Njoki, who HIV positive, in a one roomed house built of iron sheet. His father James Kanyanjui died early this year as a result of a fatal road accident; he too was HIV positive.
Abdi's mother sells soap, which she prepares herself, in order to support her children, 2 boys and 3 girls; Abdi's mother, who is a Muslim, also plays a bigger role in this community of Korogocho by preaching about HIV/Aids: how to live positively if you are inffected and how to live safely if you not yet infected. Through this ministry, she has helped a lot of women who are in poverty life like her and they have been finding a meaning of life.
Despite the fact that Abdi's mother is very courageous she and her children do face many challenges in life, for example when there is no daily income from her small business, they go hungry. Raising school fees for her children, especially Abdi, is hard. And so this boy needs a special hand of help to allow him to continue with his schooling so that life in future can have a meaning to him and his family.
