Alex is four years old; he is a kind, smiling friendly and respectful little boy. He likes to play ball with his friends and to ride his bicycle. At home he helps with the house chores. In quieter times, he likes to paint and draw. Alex is keen on going to school because when he grows up his ambition is to be a doctor.

Alex's father is Hipólito López; he is 34 years old and he works in the fields. His mother's name is María Rosario; she is 35 and she works doing chores in her own home and for another family as well. Alex has three brothers: Edwin Estuardo who is seven years old and in first grade; Herson David who is five years old and in kindergarten; and Angel Adolfo who is only two years old.

The family is close-knit; the parents are responsible and they both work very hard to provide for their children. They both would like to see their children become professionals when they grow up. The whole family attends church regularly in order to learn the word of God.

They live in a small room that is made of block, tin roof and concrete floor. They have electrical service and running water and they use firewood to cook their meals.
